Summary

In one of the year's most anticipated debut psychological thrillers, a family made infamous by a true crime documentary is found dead, leaving their surviving son to uncover the truth about their final days。

"They found the bodies on a Tuesday。" So begins this twisty and breathtaking novel that traces the fate of the Pine family, a thriller that will both leave you on the edge of your seat and move you to tears。

After a late night of partying, NYU student Matt Pine returns to his dorm room to devastating news: nearly his entire family--his mom, his dad, his little brother and sister--have been found dead from an apparent gas leak while vacationing in Mexico。 The local police claim it was an accident, but the FBI and State Department seem far less certain--and they won't tell Matt why。

The tragedy makes headlines everywhere because this isn't the first time the Pine family has been thrust into the media spotlight。 Matt's older brother, Danny--currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his teenage girlfriend Charlotte--was the subject of a viral true crime documentary suggesting that Danny was wrongfully convicted。 Though the country has rallied behind Danny, Matt holds a secret about his brother that he's never told anyone: the night Charlotte was killed Matt saw something that makes him believe his brother is guilty of the crime。

When Matt returns to his small hometown to bury his parents and siblings, he's faced with a hostile community that was villainized by the documentary, a frenzied media, and memories he'd hoped to leave behind forever。 Now, as the deaths in Mexico appear increasingly suspicious and connected to Danny's case, Matt must unearth the truth behind the crime that sent his brother to prison--putting his own life in peril--and forcing him to confront his every last fear。

Told through multiple points-of-view and alternating between past and present, Alex Finlay's Every Last Fear is not only a page-turning thriller, it's also a poignant story about a family managing heartbreak and tragedy, and living through a fame they never wanted。

Great book- short chapters so I could read in the few minutes I had - author left breadcrumbs that I kept wanting to pick up。 Well done。

3。5 stars。 There is a jarring flip flop between time periods with relatively short chapters that made it more difficult to keep the plot straight。 The many twists kept me guessing

Very good! The strongest points of this novel are the plotting and the catchiness。 I was at the edge of the seat practically all the time, as the action is swift, never a boring moment here。 The branches of the plot are widening, constantly bringing a new piece of information onto the rich mosaic of who - and why - killed the Pine family。 The plot logic also works from the hindsight, there are clues to see when looking back and they are hidden smartly。What stopped me from giving the book 5 star Very good! There is some seriously self-important stuff in this book, and quite a bit of superfluousness, but overall it's a strong story with strong characters。 I'd like to give it five stars because it kept me up all night, but probably 20% of that time I was skimming。 Just when something juicy happens, you have to go back to people eating, swimming, hanging out, laughing, joking, whatever, doing things that have nothing to do with furthering the narrative, for two or three chapters sometimes。 It is inco There is some seriously self-important stuff in this book, and quite a bit of superfluousness, but overall it's a strong story with strong characters。 I'd like to give it five stars because it kept me up all night, but probably 20% of that time I was skimming。 Just when something juicy happens, you have to go back to people eating, swimming, hanging out, laughing, joking, whatever, doing things that have nothing to do with furthering the narrative, for two or three chapters sometimes。 It is incongruous and detracts from what could have been great。 If Finlay and his editors can learn to cut the fat, this guy could become a monster。 Someone to watch, but again, like virtually all my reviews, too much superfluousness, and where is the fucking editor?? 。。。more

This book is the author's debut offering and it is a book about a family tragedy told from multiple view points。 It is a riveting mystery and superbly plotted even with the multiple characters and held my interest throughout。 For some reason I was expecting more of a horror story (with the title) but it didn't disappoint, even if it was anything but a horror story。 Four and 1/2 stars。 This book is the author's debut offering and it is a book about a family tragedy told from multiple view points。 It is a riveting mystery and superbly plotted even with the multiple characters and held my interest throughout。 For some reason I was expecting more of a horror story (with the title) but it didn't disappoint, even if it was anything but a horror story。 Four and 1/2 stars。 。。。more

This book was so good! Best thriller I’ve read in a long time! The writing style was super engaging。 The author did a fantastic job with the pace of the book, it never lulled。 I also felt every character was written so well, each 3 dimensional and added to the story。 Loved it!

While I definitely am not into books that switch characters telling their story throughout a book, this one kept me on my toes and wanting more。

This was great! Terrific pacing, amiable characters/eventual victims。 A really good, hard to put down read。

Matt Pine returns to his dorm room after a night out with his NYU friends to the news that his parents, younger brother and sister were found dead while vacationing in Tulum, Mexico。 The local police rule it as an accident attributing the cause to an accidental gas leak but the FBI suspect foul play。 Matt’s family has had its share of troubles。 His elder brother Danny was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Charlotte and has been serving a life sentence, a crime that many believe he has bee Matt Pine returns to his dorm room after a night out with his NYU friends to the news that his parents, younger brother and sister were found dead while vacationing in Tulum, Mexico。 The local police rule it as an accident attributing the cause to an accidental gas leak but the FBI suspect foul play。 Matt’s family has had its share of troubles。 His elder brother Danny was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Charlotte and has been serving a life sentence, a crime that many believe he has been wrongfully convicted of。 A true crime documentary featuring Danny’s case that delves into aspects of the trial, investigation and coerced confession have placed the Pine family in the spotlight and insinuations about the faulty investigation and possible suspects have led to the family being driven out of their hometown in Nebraska and relocating in Naperville,Illinois。 There are multiple theories about what could have happened to the Pines。 Could it have simply been an accident? Was this related to Evan Pine’s workplace which is under investigation by the FBI ? Was it in anyway related to Danny’s case ? Does Matt know more than he is letting on? The narrative jumps between past and present with multiple POVs。 We get to know how Evan Pine and his daughter Maggie have been conducting their own investigation into Charlotte’s murder。 We get to know more about their lives , their friends, family and the dynamics they share with their former townspeople。 Their timeline covers the events leading up to that fateful day in Mexico。 Excerpts from the documentary are interspersed throughout the narrative and contribute to the storyline。 The present day narrative follows Agent Keller’s investigation and how Matt deals with the aftermath of his family’s demise - hounded by the press, followed by the documentary filmmakers who are in hopes of a sequel and the shady people he comes across in Mexico and back home with his only support system being his NYU friends。 Alex Finlay’s Every Last Fear starts off great! The very first page reels you in。 However, as the story progressed I found my initial excitement wearing off 。 Matt , understandably grieving for his family, comes across as somewhat passive even after multiple dangers he faces。 I found his character rather uninteresting。 While I usually enjoy multiple timelines and POVs , in this case I found the story losing its pace/flow with the author trying to maybe pack a little too much into what should have been a more taut , suspenseful narrative。 It was not difficult to predict the identity of the guilty party much before the actual reveal , though how the events actually play out is well executed。 I did like FBI Agent Sarah Keller a lot and would love for her to feature in the author’s future novels。 Though not as thrilling as expected , Every Last Fear is quick read with a mystery that does hold your interest till the end。 While I did not dislike the novel, I wasn’t really sitting on the edge of my seat, holding my breath or biting my nails waiting for the mystery to be unraveled, which is the way I would have liked it to be。 。。。more

I finished this book before the New Year I guess I just forgot to rate it。 Anyway, I really enjoyed this book。 I had a few guesses along the way and early on I guessed right but then other parts of the book made me doubt myself and change my mind。 I live a book that keeps me interested and guessing。

Excellent mystery-thriller! The plot is unique with lots of twists and surprises that all felt methodically planned, not just thrown in。 Characters were relatable, too。 Hope the author's next book is as good as this fast, run read。 Excellent mystery-thriller! A suspenseful thriller than you don't want to put down。 I enjoyed reading from the multiple POV in the story。 Definitely some good twists and turns along the way。 Ending was pretty good althought it felt a little predictable in some ways。 Overall a fast read and good page turner。Thank you NetGalley for this ARC。#EveryLastFear #NetGalley A suspenseful thriller than you don't want to put down。 I enjoyed reading from the multiple POV in the story。 Definitely some good twists and turns along the way。 Ending was pretty good althought it felt a little predictable in some ways。 Overall a fast read and good page turner。Thank you NetGalley for this ARC。#EveryLastFear #NetGalley 。。。more

Before and after chapters race towards a conclusion。 A man in prison for a crime he may not have committed。 A family trying to prove his innocence found dead in Mexico。

The story was interesting at first but I feel like the multiple POVs are not helping。 They are slowing the pace not increasing the suspense for me。 I am bored so I'm stopping at 50%。 The story was interesting at first but I feel like the multiple POVs are not helping。 They are slowing the pace not increasing the suspense for me。 I am bored so I'm stopping at 50%。 。。。more

I highly recommend Every Last Fear 。。。more

I didn't think I was going to like this book as much as I did with the less than stellar reviews and based on low YouTube reviews。 This was a very involved story about a family that was killed in Mexico。The story centers on Matt, the surviving son of the family that was killed in Mexico。 Matt also has a brother Danny who is currently in jail for murder。 Yea this Family has some issues here。 Talk about a bad luck family。 The book starts off great, gets a little bogged down in the middle but picks I didn't think I was going to like this book as much as I did with the less than stellar reviews and based on low YouTube reviews。 This was a very involved story about a family that was killed in Mexico。The story centers on Matt, the surviving son of the family that was killed in Mexico。 Matt also has a brother Danny who is currently in jail for murder。 Yea this Family has some issues here。 Talk about a bad luck family。 The book starts off great, gets a little bogged down in the middle but picks up again at the end。 There were not a lot of twists throughout this book as most of them were revealed at the end。 But this is okay。 I liked the characters, especially Sarah Keller, the Police Officer helping Matt find out what happened to his family。 There were quite a few characters to keep track of, but this book didn't have me as confused as I should have been。So I would definitely recommend this book to those that like a good mystery thriller。 。。。more

Would give a 4。5 - the ending is a mind fuck, in the best possible way。

3。5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️I liked the formatting for the story telling switching between past and present, different narrators helping us piece together the puzzle。 I didn’t like that 2/3 of the book was all background, and I found the grand reveal to be so cliché, but overall the book was a fun/ easy read。This would be an entertaining film to watch。

I really like this one。 The story was fast passed and it was interesting。 Not sure how I felt about the ending though。
